As part of Crimson’s Products and Markets Service, Consultant needed to create and drive a new corporate strategy. Our client is in the information business. They want to move from selling enterprise licenses to large pharmaceutical companies to a much larger market – the consumer (individual purchasers) market. Possible avenues to accomplish this include:
- A freemium model where users upgrade to receive more and better information
- New channel partners who can write applications on top of their platform and sell into new markets
- A web-based approach where visitors would develop their own apps on top of the platform, enabling our client to earn profits off of the platform and the apps
Consultant will be working with a management team that is loaded with domain expertise, but lacking in the knowledge necessary to create a business model to fully transform the company into new paths to profit. This role will work directly with the CEO and board to evaluate all business models and choose the optimal path to transform the company. At the simplest level, the deliverable is a business plan. In reality, this role will be creating an entirely new strategic direction for a bet-the-company move, AND helping to implement that strategy. This project requires significant experience in evaluating different business models for selling information and selling apps on top of a platform to a wide audience.
MUST HAVE:
- 10+ years of experience with companies selling information-based products to individuals (examples of companies that fit this profile include Hoovers, Axciom, Equifax, Experian, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters and others)
- Experience with freemium models
- Experience developing new business models
- Experience selling applications and development platforms
- Deep understanding of the business models for SaaS solutions, especially as it applies to selling to individuals
- Strategy development experience that includes convincing the CEO and Board of Directors to bet on a new, transformative path
STRONGLY PREFER:
- MBA
- Strategy consulting experience
- A former role as a CEO
