Crimson offers Competitive Technical Analysis and Benchmarking Labs to provide clients with a better understanding of how competitor’s offerings actually perform relative to stated sales and marketing claims. Our unique methodology leverages knowledge provided by Crimson’s vast network of technical subject matter experts, our specialized VAR Systems Integrator partners, and customer/channel interviews. In addition, Crimson supports the deployment and operation of on-site and off-site technical benchmarking labs for periodic or ongoing feature validation and performance analysis.
Crimson Thought Leadership on Technical Competitive Analysis and Benchmarking Labs
Assessed Key Feature and Performance Differences for Desktop and Web-Based Applications
Crimson assessed key feature and performance differences of traditional desktop and emerging Web-based productivity application suites. Our analysis highlighted differences across ease of use, functionality, user interface, data source access, and user assistance -- among other parameters. Our analysis also revealed significant differences in key areas likely of concern to buyers of productivity application suites. These findings were then translated into documents the field could use to highlight differences in competitive selling situations.
Conducted Competitive Analysis of Application Servers
Crimson produced competitive observations and recommendations in order to determine the positioning, marketing approach and product feature-functions with respect to other application server vendors. The study covered the application server market as a whole, and then examined product and marketing issues including functionality, field organizations, implementation issues, support for Web services, and specific comparisons with our client’s offering.
Conducted Competitive Analysis of Business Intelligence Tools
Crimson conducted a detailed competitive analysis of Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing solutions. Our approach included hands-on feature-by-feature analysis by seasoned users and technical experts of competitive offerings. We assessed multiple aspects of competitive solution deployment, operations, and maintenance in order to identify areas of strength and weakness relative to our client’s offering. Our client is incorporating our findings into their product planning process to improve their near- and long-term competitive performance in the global enterprise IT infrastructure market.
Conducted Study on Business Decision-Making Processes
Crimson identified the business decision makers and documented their decision-making processes across eight vertical industries. For each vertical, Crimson developed a decision-making map that identified the various entities involved in a decision, including defining their specific role and the timing of their involvement. These maps identified the key influencers and key influence points for our client to target.
Created ROI Tool for Enterprise Sales
Crimson developed a sophisticated interactive sales tool for representing the economic benefit of Managed IP Telephony Services (VoIP) and other related services being sold into the enterprise. We also developed and presented a "train the trainer" session to enable our client to take full ownership of this tool, while simultaneously supporting them as they introduced this tool to the field.
Defined Telecom Service Provider Metrics
Crimson defined the commonly employed performance metrics used at each level in the decision-making process. Crimson developed a chart defining the metrics and the language used across a service provider organization and how these metrics and language interact within the organization. Crimson also identified “meta metrics” generally used at incumbent service providers as well as outside parties evaluating network performance.
Developed Competitive Technical Papers on Integration
Crimson developed two competitive technical comparison papers for our client detailing the cost, value and time-to-completion differences between business integration software options. We worked in conjunction with a benchmarking lab to design the approach and validate the tests. We then packaged the results in a manner that enabled a technology decision-maker to understand the key competitive differentiators.
Developed Lab-Based Assessment for Comparing Enterprise Application Integration Solutions
Crimson built and hosted a physical lab for the side-by-side analysis of enterprise application integration solutions. The purpose of the lab was to compare the total cost of ownership associated with deploying and maintaining competitive integration offerings. Using “real world” scenarios, Crimson modeled how users would likely address a set of integration challenges in a heterogeneous enterprise computing environment. The results of this lab-based assessment were ultimately translated into a variety of market- and field-facing documents in order to improve competitive positioning among business and IT decision makers tasked with solving common integration challenges.
Evaluated Use of Hand-Held Devices Across Various Mobility Platforms
Crimson deployed a lab-based environment in order to evaluate comparative user experiences of those utilizing hand-held devices to support productivity applications across a number of mobility platforms (software and devices). Our analysis focused on the real-life challenges faced by users of numerous platform and application combinations. Crimson also supported a performance test benchmark by stress-testing each platform’s ability to handle common document types likely to be most heavily utilized by corporate and consumer users. Our analysis enabled our client to benchmark their performance relative to competitors in order to drive subsequent product development and marketing communications planning.
